Professor Dr. Towhida Rashid is Professor and founding Chairperson of the Department of Meteorology, University of Dhaka. Prior to joining this department, she was a Professor in the Department of Geography and Environment, University of Dhaka. She served as Assistant Secretary at Ministry of Industries and Ministry of Planning of the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh from 1999-2004. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Environment with distinction from Dhaka University.

Professor Dr. Towhida Rashid obtained her PhD in “Sea Level Change” in 2009 from Okayama University, Japan under the BangaBandhu Overseas scholarship from Dhaka University. Her research interests lie in the fields of Climate change, Oceanography, Climate Projection and Model, Paleoclimate, GIS, Remote Sensing, Hydrometeorology. She obtained LaFond award (Gold Medal) in Physical Oceanography from International Association for Physical Sciences of Ocean (IAPSO), Melbourne, Australia in the IAPSO symposium IUGG General Assembly in Melbourne, Australia in 2011.

She was an Invited Speaker in conference of International Association for Physical Sciences of Ocean (IAPSO), Gutenberg, Sweden: 02-08 July 2013. Professor Dr. Towhida has a good number of publications in reputed international journals and has written a book on "Holocene Sea level scenario of Bangladesh" published by springer, Netherlands.

Professor Dr. Towhida Rashid was a senate member of Dhaka University from 2017-2020 and has been elected again for the present senate from 2022. She has established many collaborations with many universities at home and abroad and is engaged in many societies and associations in country and abroad. She is a founding member of South Asian Meteorologists Association (SAMA). She has been the project director in many government and aided projects.

She joined Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute as Director General on 18 September 2023.
